In regards to your clinical question, QL/low back, hip external rotator muscle and sciatica issues occurring together is something I see in the clinic on a fairly regular basis. In my mind, much of this probably has to do with the origin of the sciatic nerve (branches in the lumbar spine) and its path through the posterior hip region. I often find that a combination of spinal facet joint mobilizations, soft tissue work through the lumbar spine (including the QL) and the posterior hip region and exercises (hip and lumbar mobility and nerve mobilizations) help with these symptoms.
